• Current research on the origins and implications of the violent urban protest in Leeds and other Northern towns during 2001.
  
• Visual sociology (documentary photography of the multi-cultural inner city).
  
• Developing book proposal on ‘race’, culture and politics in the UK since 1945.
  

Sociological and cultural analysis of 'race', with specific focus on the multi-cultural inner city (subject of Ph. D 'Constructing and De-Constructing "community". A case study of a multi-cultural inner city area : Chapeltown, Leeds 1972 - 1997')

Commissioned research on popular perceptions of Harehills and Chapeltown, Leeds (with Tom Burden; published 2000; commissioned by Leeds City Council's Regeneration partnership Unit).
